The cold roll steel coil strapping and packing line manufacturer is responsible for providing a complete packaging line for the automation project. The system shall be fully automatic and shall minimize the need for manual labor. The manufacturer shall use the latest state-of-the-art technology in the design, automation, and component selection to ensure that the system is efficient and energy-optimized wherever possible.
The equipment shall be close-coupled to the production line, and the system shall provide a transport method for coils from the cold roll production line and the Automatic Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) to the packaging line. The manufacturer shall provide on-site installation and technical service to ensure that the equipment is installed and commissioned properly.
The equipment provided by the manufacturer shall include automatic coil strapping machines, film wrapping machines, paper covering machines, edge protection mechanisms, and a storage and handling system. The manufacturer shall ensure that all equipment is complete and ready for installation, except for equipment noted as “Supplied by Others” in the specification.
The packaging process includes the following steps:
ID hole protector: The ID hole protector is used to protect the inside diameter of the coil from damage during transport.
ID steel edge protector: The ID steel edge protector is used to protect the inside edges of the coil.
OD steel edge protector: The OD steel edge protector is used to protect the outside edges of the coil.
OD edge protector strapping: The OD edge protector strapping secures the steel edge protectors to the coil to prevent them from shifting during transport.
ID cardboard protector: The ID cardboard protector is used to provide additional protection to the inside diameter of the coil.
OD cardboard protector: The OD cardboard protector is used to provide additional protection to the outside diameter of the coil.
Cold roll steel coil OD strapping: The cold roll steel coil OD strapping is used to secure the coil to the pallet during transport.
VCI paper covering: The VCI paper covering is used to protect the metal surface of the coil from corrosion during transport and storage.
VCI film stretch wrapping: The VCI film stretch wrapping is used to provide additional protection to the coil and to secure the VCI paper covering in place.
Cardboard OD covering: The cardboard OD covering is used to provide additional protection to the outside diameter of the coil.
Steel sheet OD covering: The steel sheet OD covering is used to provide additional protection to the outside diameter of the coil.
Side cover: The side cover is used to provide additional protection to the side of the coil during transport.
The circumferential strapping machine and radial coil strapping machine are equipment designed for automatic steel coil strapping. They include several features to ensure efficient and reliable operation:
Circumferential strapping machine: The circumferential strapping machine is equipped with a bridge crane for position adjustment that is controlled by a PLC system. It includes a strap coil belt dispenser in a vertical position that feeds and unwinds the belt. The strapping head is equipped with a pneumatic clutch. The machine is able to move both to the right and left for steel coil OD strapping.
Radial coil strapping machine: The radial coil strapping machine is mounted on a rolley-mounted mobile base that can move forward and backward for automatic radial coil strapping. The machine includes a rotation orbital mechanism and belt dispenser system for automatic position adjustment. The system checks the coil hole for eye through steel belt feeding and strapping.
OD edge protector: The OD edge protector is used to provide additional protection to the outside edges of the coil during transport.
Circumference coil strapping: The circumference coil strapping is used to secure the coil to the pallet.
Radial coil strapping: The radial coil strapping is used to secure the coil to the pallet.
The automatic packing line equipment required to package the steel coils shall be designed and provided by the SELLER. The automatic system shall be capable of handling, transporting, and processing material from the coil production line. The system shall apply the necessary packaging materials and make the final packages ready to be removed from the line by the BUYER. The following is a general expectation of the line provision:
Entry coil receiving and separator retainment equipment from the production line to separate the coils.
Entry coil receiving from coil storage bay to receive the coils for packaging.
Weigh scale with label applicator magazine and printer systems integration to weigh and label the coils.
Coil ID and OD scanner for input into the coil wrapping system to ensure proper wrapping.
Installation of inner ID edge protector (automation as an option) to protect the inside diameter of the coil.
Installation of steel belt strapping machine for banding through ID (3 each) (automation as an option) to secure the coil.
Automated installation of banding around OD (??4) to secure the coil.
Automated installation of outer OD edge protection to protect the outside diameter of the coil.
Automated through the eye wrapping of coils (x3 wrap layers) with a twin film wrapping shuttle to apply different film types simultaneously, with an automatic film shuttle exchange unit, and film cutter clamp with heat seal.
Adjustable film pre-stretch capability up to 50% to optimize the use of film.
Installation of plastic side wall protectors (automation as an option) to protect the side of the coil.
Installation of plastic outer wrap protector (full coverage or partial coverage) (automation as an option) to protect the outside of the coil.
Installation of radial coil strapping bands through ID (x2) (automation as an option) to secure the coil.
Pallet handling and placement/centering equipment (automation as an option) to ensure the proper placement of coils on the pallet.
Automatic coil loading on pallet to automate the loading process.
Installation of circumference coil strapping bands around OD (??4) (bands coil to pallet) (automation as an option) to secure the coil to the pallet.
Installation of label (x2 – 1 End sidewall + 1 OD) (automation as an option) to identify the coil and provide information.
Exit Queue equipment (up to 4 palletized coils) to queue the finished coils for removal.
Fully integrated Packaging Line Control System to control and monitor the packaging line.

The Master Coil Stretch Wrapper is an important component of a steel coil packaging line. It is designed for coil eye-through wrapping and is an automatic packing system that includes an orbital stretch wrapper, trolley, hydraulic system, and shuttles. The machine is capable of up and down, left and right adjustments for automatic coil ID checking for VCI film application. The machine applies nice packaging tension and overwrap to ensure that the package is moisture-proof.
The orbital stretch wrapper is a type of machine that wraps a stretch film around a product while it rotates on a turntable. The stretch film provides a tight and secure cover that protects the product from damage during transportation and storage. The trolley and shuttles allow the machine to move and position the coil for wrapping. The hydraulic system provides the necessary force to apply the stretch film.
The machine’s ability to adjust up and down, left and right allows for proper coil ID checking and ensures that the VCI film is applied correctly. The VCI film provides additional protection to the coil by preventing corrosion and rust.
